The Roofing Process

Your roofing contractor is scheduled to install your new roof next week. Do you know what to expect? Let’s take a step-by-step
look at the roofing process so you’re prepared.

STEP ONE

Delivery of some materials and a dumpster for the debris happens a day or two prior to the installation day.

STEP TWO

On roofing day, we protect your home with tarps to cover siding, landscaping, gardens, shrubs, and more as necessary.

STEP THREE

Time to remove the old roof, including shingles, underlayments, and flashing and roof decking where necessary.

STEP FOUR

We carefully inspect the roof decking and replace any decking boards that are rotten or soft.

STEP FIVE

We apply a non-corrosive piece of metal called a drip edge, to prevent water from getting to the decking.

STEP SIX

Next is the ice and water shield. This self-adhering membrane helps prevent ice dams and water damage from wind-driven rain.

STEP SEVEN

Roofing felt offers an additional layer of water resistance and protection against leakage. These additional layers can extend the life of your roof deck.

STEP EIGHT

Starter shingles are applied to all the edges of your roof. These go under the first row of shingles to protect seams.

STEP TEN

We will install new vents to ensure adequate ventilation so that you can end up with less condensation, mold, ice dams, and more.

Then, we install new flashing to direct water away from areas that can leak such as chimneys and roof valleys.

STEP TWELVE

Thoroughly cleaning the job site is our last step. We make sure all the discarded roofing materials are safely in a dumpster that will be hauled off when we’re finished.
